What is Delta Silver Medallion Status?

The lowest of all the SkyMiles Medallion Elite Status tiers is the Silver Medallion Status. On being a Delta Silver, you get to enjoy all the entry-level benefits to the basic frequent traveler. It is considered to be the easiest rank to earn, even with a little bit of flying.

In order to earn Delta Silver Medallion Status, you got to fly at least 25,000 miles and 30 segments. 

In addition to it, you must spent $3,000 with Delta, or receive a waiver for spending $25,000 in eligible purchases on Delta and American Express Co-branded credit card.

Silver Medallion Benefits

It is the lowest SkyMiles Medallion Elite Status Tier. Majority of the people, frequently traveling with Delta Airlines, hold this rank.

You need to choose to fly with Delta Airlines to earn this beginner level and enjoy the benefits attached to it.

  1. Complimentary Medallion Upgrades

Being a Delta Silver Class, you are eligible for unlimited complimentary  upgrades to Delta First Class or Delta One while traveling within the country or to the nearby international  destinations, beginning  24 hours from the flight.

You receive upgrades  on all tickets, excluding basic economy, Miles+ Cash tickets, all award tickets, and Pay with Miles tickets.

Please note that you can receive a complimentary upgrade to Delta Premium Select or Delta One  products only within the United States of America.

Delta Prioritizes Upgrades on the following basis:

  • You get an upgrade only after Diamond Medallions, Platinum Medallions, and Gold Medallions.
  • If two Silver Medallions are due for an upgrade, the one with costlier fare class would receive priority.
  • For complimentary upgrades, those who hold Delta SkyMiles Reserve American Express Card receive priority over non-cardholders.
  • Delta Corporate travelers receive more priority for a complimentary
  • For a complimentary upgrade, a Silver Medallion who completes the $25,000 of spending in a year to waive the Medallion Qualification Dollars Component will receive priority over a Silver Medallion doesn’t do it.
  • If everything else is same for the two Silver Medallions, the one who would have requested an upgrade earlier (by the date and time) would receive an upgrade first.
  1. Earn More Miles

If you are Delta Airlines Silver Medallion member, you get to earn 7 miles per dollar spent on Delta flights.

This suggests that on spending $3,000, annually, to earn Silver, you would earn a minimum of 21,000 miles which are enough for a one-way first class ticket (at a low mileage rate), or a round-trip coach ticket at a low mileage rate.

Under this program, you are allowed to speed through the ID and boarding pass verification process before making your way to the metal detectors at U.S. airports.

There is a CLEAR lane at the airport where your fingerprints or iris are scanned, as well as your boarding pass.

 Being a Silver Medallion Member, you can get CLEAR for $109 for an year.

Delta Silver Medallions fall under the first main cabin group to board after all the other elite passengers, seated in the premium cabin.

In comparison to a general SkyMiles member or any other normal passenger, you can speak with an agent faster at the cost of being a Delta Silver Medallion.  You are assigned a different helpline number, known as Delta Silver Medallion Phone Number, when compared to the other passengers.

  1. Discounts on Delta Vacations

It is a great benefit for the members of a Silver Medallion Tier.  You can save up to $300, on each booking, with Delta Vacations. The savings depend on the price of the Delta Vacations that you choose.

  1. Reclaiming My Status

In several instances, you might not meet your targets to maintain your Silver Medallion Status. In a particular year, if you couldn’t travel enough with Delta Airlines, due to some real issue, the airlines may give you another chance to have your status back.

Remember to ask for your status back when you are in a position to fly as much or more than the status you previously held.

To reclaim your status, you would have to complete both a “fly" and “spend” targets to reclaim your status:

  • You need to fly 6,250 Medallion Qualifying Miles or 8 Medallion Qualifying Segments.
  • You would need to spend $750 Medallion Qualifying Dollars or participate in the Medallion Qualifying Waiver by spending $25,000 on an eligible American Express co-branded credit card.
